European Oak is grown slowly, producing a uniform colour and straight grain. The sapwood is up to 50mm in width, and lighter in colour than the heartwood which is yellowish-brown. Quarter-sawn surfaces show a distinct silver-grain figure due to the broad rays. The character of European Oak is heavily influenced by the conditions it grows in. Takes glue, nails and screws well, except near to edges, when the timber should be pre-bored. European Oak can be finished to an exceptionally high standard, drastically enhancing the true beauty of this wood.
